These are not your average relationships. They come with their own unique set of challenges. There is life beyond finding the ‘one’ and trust us when we tell you, the endgame weighs heavy on men who are in service. So, what are men looking for?
Loyalty
This one should come as a surprise to no one. Given how long they are stuck in the field, service personnel will likely want someone who can make them feel secure and loved. Whether their partner will still be around when they return home should be the last thing on their mind.
Patience
Nothing can test a relationship like distance does. Add a battlefield to the mix and you’re in for a rollercoaster. Patience is key to making things work and it’s one of the most important qualities that guys look for.
Maturity
There are big demons to slay in the battlefield and a partner who understands this is someone a military man will keep around for life.
Relatability
Military men, like all other men, don’t have a specific ‘type’. Each one has his own preferences, likes and dislikes. So if you click then you click.
While it helps to know what sort of partners count as the right one for military men, you also need to keep in mind some qualities that will send them screaming into the opposite direction.
Clingy
You won’t be the glue that holds things together, that’s for sure. Military personnel can often land in situations where they cannot dictate how often or when they can communicate with loved ones. If you’re acting like the world has ended when this happens, your relationship is likely going to end too.
Self-centered
It’s not easy to relate to what’s happening in a warzone, but partners that are unable to talk about anything but themselves are not only unattractive but also push the relationship into a ditch. Take an interest into what your man is telling you so that he feels heard.
Zero planning or over planning
Both are bad and we’ll tell you how. When he comes home do you have no idea how you’re going to make the most of your time? If the answer is yes, you’re not valuing time enough. Ironically, the opposite doesn’t work either. Do you have every second of his day mapped out already? You’re going to suffocate him. The key is to communicate with each other to come up with a healthy balance so you can make the most of the time you have.
That’s a well articulated post and one which I definitely identify 99.99% with. Personally it’s important to have a mutual relationship based on the success factors elaborated.
Brilliant stuff! Not just for military personnel but for all x
I think that applys to everyone x
Really true in every relationship but I can really see how much it would mean in a military man x
How can you find out if a military man is who he says he is????
Hi I have just been scammed by someone saying they were a soldier, he asked me for money so alarm bells rang.I did a google reverse search image on some of the photos he sent me of him in uniform . And up popped the pictures ,they had been used several times he really roped me in over a few weeks before asking for money .be careful .He told me he was on a secret mission ,hadn’t got a phone couldnt contact me except through hangouts .He was a widow ,check him out ,put his name and images through google .All soldiers have an army email ask for it ,ask him his base ,his unit and mos number all soldiers know theirs off by heart.if he has only one way of contact that suspects,I met money on IG
I was a military wife and it is hard you have to take the good with the bad, sometimes when they ring and they dont talk much tell them about your day ie what work you had to do how the kids have been doing at school if you have kids. Basically just keep there spirits up.
Looking for someone to chat with and see where it goes
Would love to find someone to chat with, support and be there for when they come home. Not easy though, both sides have to have trust or it won’t work will it?
Same here
This should apply in all relationships trust understanding is the biggest factor ??
